Yin Yoga targets connective tissue, specifically ligaments and tendons in the joints and spine. When lengthening these tissues, we increase the range of motion. Muscles account for about 40% of the resistance against the body's flexibility, while connective tissue accounts for about 50%. In Yin Yoga the practitioner holds an asana 3-5 minutes or longer, affecting the connective tissue. Yin Yoga is believed to improve energy throughout the body. Hatha/Vinyasa students will notice that a yin practice will increase their range of motion in flowing sequences. Yin practice is for all levels and abilities and modifications will be offered.
