River Mountain Retreat
Retreat with Susan Mondi Bowen & the Thrive Community at River Mountain Retreat Center. River Mountain’s 150 acre campus is located in the heart of the Allegheny Mountains of southern Pennsylvania along the banks of Sweet Root Creek. Nestled in a deep valley adjacent to Buchanan State Forest, our secluded sanctuary provides unparalleled access to the outdoors and back- to-nature experiences, aiming to provide accessibility and inclusivity for all.
River Mountain is more than a place – it is a transformational, human-centered experience. River Mountain offers open space and fresh mountain air to getaway and be well. It is a place to realign, reconnect, and recharge with one another and the natural world. A place to unwind and enjoy your journey.
Daily Adventures and Activities:
The River Mountain kitchen provides fresh and delicious meals created specifically for retreat guests, including plant-based, vegetarian, pescatarian, and gluten-free. They handle it all: pre-arrival guest communication with food allergies and dietary restrictions, menu variations to meet individual guest needs, and on-site meal service.
The Main Lodge is our central point for living well – sunlight soaked guest rooms, panoramic yoga studio, private massage room, and lounge area.
“BIG RED” BARN
Our restored mid 19th-century Mennonite barn is the ideal gathering space. From morning yoga, evening ping-pong, and company events, “Big Red” is the perfect combination of hand-crafted beauty in an updated space.
HISTORIC LOG CABIN
The restored 1807 historic log cabin serves as our dining hall and breakfast area. The hand-hewn timber, the handcrafted community tables, the crackle of the old fireplace – this is a place to settle in for the evening.
Our yoga platforms rest at the base of Warrior Ridge, along Sweet Root Creek, and look out to Tussey Mountain. Enjoy a class led by River Mountain facilitators or do your own thing on these platforms nestled in Black Valley.
Circadian Rhythm Design
Designed by award-winning architecture firm GWWO in Baltimore, our circadian rhythm cabins align with the body’s natural rhythms — helping reduce stress, enhance creativity, and increase connection to the natural environment.
